The food collection

These 79 food pages contain 81 records from the official USDA SR Legacy April 2018 download, accessed on 28 Sept 2026. Values are imported from the original records, without intermediate rounding. The original source records and archive checksum are retained with the project. The access date is not a new laboratory analysis date.

Each food links to its USDA record and describes the exact preparation. These are generic reference foods: a different cut, brand or preparation can have different values.

Recipe development

The recipes are developed with AI assistance for CarbPortion. Cooking times are estimates; use the temperature and texture cues in each method. Measured ingredients make the nutrition calculation and serving adjustments transparent.

Recipe nutrition is calculated from every listed ingredient, including seasonings, oils and sauces. Raw ingredients use raw records. The calculation assumes all listed ingredients and cooking juices are eaten; evaporation changes cooked weight, while discarded fat, juice or cooking water can change the amount actually eaten. Portions are equal shares of the whole recipe.

Recipe illustrations

Images marked “AI illustration” are generated illustrations based on the listed ingredients. They show a serving suggestion rather than a photograph of a cooked recipe. Their appearance and portion size do not determine the nutrition calculation.

The calculation

Each stored value is per 100 g of edible food. A portion is calculated as value × grams ÷ 100. Recipe totals are the sum of the ingredients, divided by the chosen number of equal servings. Rounding happens for display after calculation.

“Carbs − fiber” subtracts dietary fiber from US-style total carbohydrate. Sugar alcohols are not deducted. This method must not be applied to carbohydrate values that already exclude fiber.

Unknown is different from zero

Missing nutrients are shown as a dash. If any ingredient lacks a nutrient, the whole-meal result for that nutrient is unknown. We do not present an incomplete sum as a complete one.

Preparation and portions

Raw and cooked records remain separate. A gram amount refers to the exact preparation selected. The calculator does not assume that a cup or a whole piece always weighs the same.
